888 Casino: three EGR titles and an Italian double
The deepest record at the trade bodies rather than at the forums, and the only one in our set announced partly through regulatory filings.

The page where this site's argument gets tested
Any site built around awards eventually reaches a brand whose trophies and whose conduct record point in opposite directions, and if it handles that brand by dropping one of the two halves, the project was decoration. This is that brand, the two records are both long (2012 to 2025, in both cases), and both are set out below with their dates.
The objection arrives before the evidence, in one of two shapes: either we are polishing an operator that a well known portal (a player forum, not a rival affiliate) tells players to avoid, or we are writing a hit piece about a company holding three major industry titles. Neither reading survives the page.
The award record, and how far each entry can be traced
Verified in the award body's own page · A new category for 2026. Shortlisted with Betsson, Eurobet, Lottomatica and Sisal. The ceremony falls on 20 October 2026 at the Rome Cavalieri and the winners were not published when we read it: this line says nomination and not a win. It is the Italian brand, as with the EGR Italy entries of 2024 and 2025.

Three entries are the same category at the largest awards in European online gambling, because EGR named the brand "Casino Operator of the Year" three times, in 2013, in 2019 and in 2021 (the third announcement says so itself). A fourth title of that exact name arrived in 2020 from Gaming Intelligence, which put Gamesys, Rank and The Stars Group behind it (the body prints the order).
Those four are not equally easy to retrace, and the gap between them is the sort of thing this site exists to write down. Two of the three EGR titles reach a reader through the company's own announcements rather than through the awarding body (the 2019 one as a regulated announcement by a listed company, as solid as that level gets), while the 2020 win sits on the body's own page of winners.
Italy holds the most recent lines, where the ledger has to separate the brand from the company owning it, because the Italian brand took "Casino operator of the year" and "Mobile operator of the year" at the EGR Italy Awards in 2024, out of six nominations (six, by the trade report we read). In 2025 the group won "Best Product Innovation" and was named only in passing for "Operator of the Year".
Two lines in the ledger are not victories at all, and one of them has aged strangely. The brand came third in "Online Casino" at the 2021 Global Gaming Awards in London (a vote of executives, ten to a shortlist), and back in 2012 the group reached the shortlist for "Socially Responsible Operator of the Year", a category whose bearing on the rest of this page is difficult to miss!
Two claims we found elsewhere never reached the ledger, because neither survived our reading. A 2016 article carries "Gaming Intelligence Casino Operator of the Year" across its headline while its text only quotes a magazine calling 888casino the one truly pan-European casino, which is a compliment and not a category. The wider "EGR Operator of the Year 2019" comes from a piece that reads like advertising, and the company's own regulated announcement names the narrower category instead.
One address, four companies, four regulators
The group is evoke Plc, formerly 888 Holdings, and the single web address is served by a different company depending on the market a player sits in, each of them named in the official terms we read on 19 October 2026. Those terms name Virtual Digital Services Limited under MGA/CRP/121/2006 from the Malta Gaming Authority, 888 UK Limited under Gambling Commission account 39028, 888 Eire Limited for Ireland (GRAI-1090-RB-26-0001), and Virtual Global Digital Services Limited under the Gibraltar licence shown in the box above.
That arrangement matters, because each licence covers its own territory and stops at its edge (the international site is not the licensed site wherever a national regime applies). One logo does not make one regulator.
The other record, read on the same day
The Casinomeister review page for this brand carries two words that no trophy offsets, "Blacklisted" and "Rogue", alongside a warning that 888 and its related properties ignore player issues and will not discuss complaints (the portal's own words), and an explicit instruction to players to avoid them, all of it read on 20 October 2026.
One source contradicts itself here, and the contradiction belongs in the text. The same portal's aggregate listing of rogue operators does not include this brand at all, so a reader following the label from one page of that site to another finds two answers, and we print both instead of the convenient one.
The numeric portals sit between those poles, and the Casino Guru "Safety Index" (a figure that portal recomputes, not a verdict) stood at seven point seven on 20 October 2026, in the band it names "Above average", with 248 complaints on file and twenty-nine unresolved. Trustpilot the same day showed one point two from 3,110 reviews, in the band it names "Bad", and neither figure will be the one that you find today.
What the Gambling Commission has on record
The licensee inside Britain is 888 UK Limited, account 39028, and that name matters because neither Cassava Enterprises (Gibraltar) Limited nor Virtual Global Digital Services Limited appears in the register, so a portal hanging this history on either of them has the wrong company. Three "financial penalty" entries under section 121(1) of the Gambling Act 2005 stood on the register (searchable by that account) when we read it.
They are 23,000 pounds on 19 August 2024 for licence condition 6.1.2, on the use of credit cards; 33,075 pounds on 7 August 2025 for social responsibility code provision 3.9.1, paragraph 3, on identifying individual customers at a distance; and 86,843 pounds on 18 November 2025 for provision 3.5.3, paragraph 3, on self-exclusion. The register notes something those three have in common, which is that the licensee reported each breach itself.
Two larger cases have left the register; they survive on the Commission's own pages of news, which is where we had to look for anything older. The first is a fine of 9.4 million pounds, dated 1 March 2022, over social responsibility and anti-money-laundering failings, with an official warning and an audit attached.
The second, dated 31 August 2017, the Commission called "a record penalty package of over £7.8 million", and the word "package" is doing real work in that sentence. It held 3.5 million pounds of deposits returned to customers who had self-excluded, 62,000 pounds of compensation to a robbed employer (one case inside the total), 4.25 million pounds paid to a socially responsible cause, and an independent audit, so anybody reading it as a straight fine is reading a total without its contents.
A register that forgets is not a register that absolves. The Commission keeps regulatory actions on the public register for a limited period only, and takes public statements down after three years (on the day we read it, the earliest entry was dated 14 November 2023). So the line on the business page for evoke Plc, account 40996, which says that "no regulatory actions have been recorded for this business", describes a retention rule and not a history.
How to weigh two records at once
What this page will not do is average the halves into one adjective (the trade's favourite is "award-winning"), since an award says a panel or a vote preferred one entrant in one category in one year, while a penalty says a regulator found conditions breached and then priced the breach (a price is a measurement). Both statements are true of this company; they hold for different years, different entities and different questions from the one that you are asking.
So take the dates, which are the one instrument that works on both halves at once. Put the 2021 EGR title beside the fine of March 2022, read them eleven months apart in the order they happened, and the argument of the entire site arrives in a single pair of entries: a trophy records a competition, and it never certified anything about your money!

What the regulator has done
Against 888 UK Limited, account 39028. For a breach of paragraph 3 of social responsibility code provision 3.5.3 on self-exclusion in remote gambling. The register records that the licensee reported it itself.
Against 888 UK Limited, account 39028. For a failure to comply with paragraph 3 of social responsibility code provision 3.9.1, on the identification of individual customers in remote gambling. The register records that the licensee reported it itself.
Against 888 UK Limited, account 39028. For a breach of licence condition 6.1.2 on the use of credit cards. The register records that the licensee identified and reported the breach itself.
Against 888 UK Limited, account 39028. For social responsibility and anti-money-laundering failings. The detail page linked from the Commission's own announcement no longer resolves, and the announcement itself is now the primary record.
Against 888 UK Limited, account 39028. For failures to protect vulnerable customers, among them customers who had asked to be excluded. The package included £3.5 million in deposits returned to self-excluded customers, £62,000 in compensation to an employer whose money had been stolen, and £4.25 million to a socially responsible cause. The licensee the Commission names is 888 UK Limited, and neither Cassava Enterprises (Gibraltar) Limited nor Virtual Global Digital Services Limited appears in the register at all.

Questions
Which 888 entity holds which licence?
Three arrangements sit behind one address: a Gibraltar licence for the international market, a Gambling Commission account inside Britain, and a Spanish company in Ceuta for the Spanish market. The card shows the one that applies to the page you are reading.
Was it Operator of the Year or Casino Operator of the Year in 2019?
Casino Operator of the Year. The wider claim comes from one article that reads like advertising; the company's own regulatory announcement names the narrower category, and that is the one we print.
