Checking an award claim yourself
This is the part of the site we would keep if we had to delete the rest, because it works on pages we have never seen.
Ad disclosure: some casino links are affiliate links; we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never affects what a page says. 18+.
A test you can run beats a verdict you have to trust
Any site can print an opinion about a casino, and the opinion is worth exactly as much as a reader's patience with the person who wrote it. What a reader can use instead is a test that runs on the next badge, on a page nobody has looked at yet, and the test below is the one we apply before any brand appears on this site.
The objection is that nobody has twenty minutes for this. Most claims collapse in two (the first two steps below), and the ones that survive the first two minutes tend to be the ones worth knowing about.
Three pieces, before any checking starts
A badge has to name three things (the body, the category in that body's own wording, and the year), and where one of them is missing there is nothing to check at all. The absence is itself the finding, because a body that had given the prize would not have been difficult to name.
The commonest version of that absence is the bare adjective: we found "award-winning" on affiliate pages for Spin Casino, Gaming Club, Royal Vegas, Platinum Play, Mummy's Gold, Lucky Nugget, River Belle, Euro Palace, Grizzly's Quest and Kiwi's Treasure, in every case with no body, no category and no year anywhere near it (ten brands, one adjective, nothing to open).
The procedure, step by step
Open the body, and not the casino
Go to the site of the award body and find its list for the year the badge claims (one page for each edition, in most cases). Two of the eleven can stop a reader here: the Gaming Intelligence Awards keep a single page (for 2024, and nothing either side of it), and the International Gaming Awards keep only their last three editions, 2024 to 2026, with nothing between 2008 and 2023 beyond a roll of outstanding contributions. The Global Gaming Awards, which kept nothing of their own until recently, now publish a winners archive by series and by year (the Americas from 2014, EMEA from 2018, Asia-Pacific from 2022).
Series also change their names between years, which breaks a search even when the result is real. The EGR Nordics Awards no longer exist as such and were folded into the European series, and a game developer ceremony that ran under its own name has been absorbed into a larger one, so a 2019 badge may point at a page that was renamed in 2024.
Match the category word for word
The wording is where most claims quietly change size: 888casino took the EGR Operator Awards title "Casino Operator of the Year" in 2019, which is what the company's own regulated announcement says, while the broader "Operator of the Year" comes from an article that reads like advertising; between the two, the narrower wording is the one that counts.
A title can mislead even when nobody intended it to, and one from 2016 carries a Gaming Intelligence headline naming 888casino while its text only quotes the magazine calling the brand the only truly pan-European casino. It declares no win at all, and the "verified" result in that series is the one from 2020, which the body prints on its own winners page.
Match the name, and not the family
Then read the winner's name exactly as the body printed it, because four different things wear one badge in practice (the site, the group that owned it, a sister brand, and a person). The SBC Awards gave Videoslots a 2019 award under the heading "Leader of the Year (Casino)", and it went to the chief executive, Alexander Stevendahl, rather than to the site that now carries it.
Read the outcome word
A list prints its winners and its runners-up in the same typeface, which an operator's page rarely does, and the words to look for are "won", "shortlisted" and "second". Videoslots came second in "Best Casino" at the AskGamblers Awards in 2018 and again in 2021, and third in "Players' Choice" in 2018; it was "shortlisted" at the SBC Awards in 2020 (the year 1xBet took that category), and its 2018 Casinomeister win was a first place shared with Trada.
Rank the source, and then date it
Sources come in four grades, which we print beside every row as A, B, C and D: the body's own page, the trade press, the operator's own statement, and an affiliate page, the last of which is not a source. A regulated announcement by a listed company is the strongest of the third grade, since a company has reasons to be careful when the stock exchange is reading.
An affiliate page can be right and still cannot be cited, because a page that copied a claim is no evidence that the claim ever happened. Then write down the day of your reading, since these sources decay: a public register drops a case after its retention period, a body announces a result inside a news article and moves on, and a page that opened last year may not open today.
The four traps, which caught us before anybody else
A group's prize, worn by one of its casinos
A group award is not a smaller brand award; it is an award to a different legal person, and the badge is usually where that word goes missing. The Casinomeister "Best Casino Group" awards of 2007 and 2008 went to The Jackpot Factory (All Slots, All Jackpots, First Web, Wild Jack and The VIP Lounge), while Jackpot City belonged to Belle Rock Entertainment and was never part of it.
A room in Leicester Square
The "Casino of the Year" that the Global Gaming Awards London gave in 2023 belongs to a land-based casino in Leicester Square, and the website carrying that name is run by a different company (Betway Limited, under a Gambling Commission licence). The room hosted the ceremony itself for seven years, which is what makes the substitution so easy to miss.
A sister brand's year
Two "rising star" awards from 2024, one at the EGR Operator Awards and one as "Rising Star of the Year" at the International Gaming Awards, are regularly credited to videoslots.com. They belong to Mr Vegas (the same ownership, a different site), and a sister brand is never the brand on the badge.
A licence wearing a rosette
The approval of Cadtree Ltd by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (27 June 2022), and the Ontario licence that 888 obtained in March 2022, are permissions to operate in a province. A permission is not a prize!
Four traps, and each is a name read too fast!
The claims we could not stand behind
The list below carries every claim that failed this procedure (twenty-two of them, with the reason beside each), and we publish it for the reason a correction is published, so that nobody copies these claims from here. Several of them we believed ourselves, for an afternoon (and one for rather longer).
- "Jackpot City won the Casinomeister best group award in 2007 and 2008"
- Casinomeister named a "Best Casino Group" in 2007 and in 2008, and both titles went to The Jackpot Factory, the group that then gathered All Slots, All Jackpots, First Web, Wild Jack and The VIP Lounge. Jackpot City belonged to Belle Rock Entertainment, a separate company. Check it.
- "The Hippodrome Online Casino won casino of the year at the Global Gaming Awards London 2023"
- That 2023 title went to The Hippodrome Casino, the land-based room in Leicester Square. The online site is a separate business, run by Betway Limited under a Gambling Commission licence. Check it.
- "Videoslots won the EGR Operator rising star 2024 and the IGA Rising Star of the Year 2024"
- Both went to Mr Vegas, a sister brand of the same company, and not to videoslots.com.
- "William Hill won the William Hill Sports Book of the Year"
- It is a literary prize that William Hill gives to authors, and not an award it receives.
- "Genting Casino, the website, holds awards"
- The awards of SkillOnNet, the operator behind the online brand, sit with PlayOJO, its own brand. The GamCare "Safer Gambling Advanced Level 3" standard of 2021 belongs to Genting Casinos UK, the land-based company, which is a separate business.
- "Grand Mondial holds a Guinness World Record"
- The ratified record is still Jon Heywood's, 17,879,645 euros on 6 October 2015, and it was won at Betway. The trade press wrote in 2018 that the entry would be updated, and the official page has not changed. Check it.
- "A Casino Rewards brand holds the all-time Mega Moolah record"
- The all-time high, 19,430,723.60 euros in April 2021, was paid by Napoleon in Belgium, which is not part of the group. Check it.
- "Casino Rewards is an award-winning group"
- We found no award, for the group or for any of its sixteen brands. Its twenty-fifth anniversary release of 16 October 2025 claims none.
- "Jumpman Gaming is an award-winning operator"
- We found no award, for the operator or for any of its eleven brands. What the public register carries is a regulatory action. Check it.
- "Ruby Fortune is the best one dollar deposit casino in Canada"
- The only source is a paid release of April 2025 with an affiliate disclosure at its foot, and it names no body, no category and no year.
- "LuckyDays won an AskGamblers Award"
- The brand appears in none of the editions we read, from 2017 to 2026, and not among the finalists either.
- "888casino won the Gaming Intelligence Casino Operator of the Year 2016"
- The 2016 article carries that headline, and its text only quotes the magazine describing 888casino as "the only truly pan-European casino": it declares no win. The 2020 win is a separate matter, and it is verified on the body's own page.
- "888casino won the EGR Operator of the Year 2019"
- The category named in the regulatory news release of the listed company is "Casino Operator of the Year". The wider wording comes from an article that reads as advertising, and the release is the word that counts.
- "Videoslots won the Casinomeister Best Casino award for the second year running in 2015"
- The same portal's index gives the 2014 title to Guts Casino and Club World. The 2015 title is the first win.
- "Videoslots won the SiGMA Casino Operator of the Year 2021"
- The only source is an affiliate site. No page of the body and no trade report confirms it.
- "Videoslots won the Gaming Intelligence Best Slots Operator 2016 and the IGA Best Slots Operator 2018"
- Both are rows of an encyclopedia table with no citation we could reach, and nothing in the trade press confirms them.
- "The Casino Rewards brands are eCOGRA certified"
- Our own working register carries it, and no source from eCOGRA or from the operator confirms it: the searches return affiliate pages only.
- "The Deckmedia brands are LCB Approved"
- The seal went to Miami Club and SlotoCash on 5 October 2015. The pages as they stand today no longer carry it. Check it.
- "Prime Slots is one of the casinos Casinomeister lists as rogue"
- The rogue page lists a "Primeslots" among houses that closed between 2008 and 2013, almost certainly a dead namesake and not the primeslots.com run by SkillOnNet. Until we can establish which company it was, we publish neither the accusation nor the clearance.
- "Fortune Lounge won awards from the magazine Gambling Online between 2002 and 2005"
- They come from a company profile written by the company itself and from a copy of an old encyclopedia entry. The magazine no longer exists and no primary archive is reachable. What remains is the Casinomeister "Best Casino Group" award of 2003, on the body's own page.
- "An Ontario or Alberta licence is a recognition"
- The approval of Cadtree Ltd by the AGCO on 27 June 2022, and the Ontario licence that 888 obtained in March 2022, are permissions to operate. A permission is not an award.
- "Award-winning casino, with no body, category or year named"
- The phrase appears on dozens of affiliate pages for Spin Casino, Gaming Club, Royal Vegas, Platinum Play, Mummy's Gold, Lucky Nugget, River Belle, Euro Palace, Grizzly's Quest and Kiwi's Treasure. It is not an award: it is an adjective.
- "The Hippodrome Online Casino won casino of the year at the Global Gaming Awards EMEA 2026"
- The 2026 "Casino OF THE YEAR" went to "The Hippodrome Casino", and the body's own page describes the category as "Recognising the land-based casino operator that has delivered an exceptional guest experience": the room in Leicester Square. On that same page Simon Thomas, executive chairman of The Hippodrome Casino, sits among the judges. The online site is a white label brand run by Betway Limited. Check it.
- "Videoslots won the IGA Slots Operator of the Year 2026"
- The 2026 "Slots Operator of the Year (Online)" went to Mr Vegas, a sister brand of the same company. Videoslots won that category in 2021 and in 2022, and in 2026 there is no IGA award to videoslots.com. Check it.
- "Videoslots was shortlisted for employer of the year at the EGR Operator Awards 2026"
- The shortlist carries "Immense Group", the parent company, and not the site; an employer category is not an award to the casino. The same shortlist puts Mr Vegas among the entries for "Marketing campaign of the year – B2C", and that is not videoslots.com either. Check it.
- "Betway, Spin Casino, Jackpot City or another Palace brand was shortlisted at the SiGMA Europe Awards 2026"
- The shortlist carries "Super Group", the holding company that owns them all, and in a sports betting category: "Best Multi-Market Sportsbook Operator", won by bet365. An award to the holding company is not an award to the brand, and a sportsbook category is not an award to a casino. Check it.
- "888casino was shortlisted at the SiGMA Europe Awards 2026"
- The shortlist carries "Evoke", the parent company, in the same sports betting category, "Best Multi-Market Sportsbook Operator". An award to the parent company is not an award to the brand, and a sportsbook category is not an award to a casino. Check it.
- "Genting Casino, Spin Genie, Mega Casino, Prime Casino or Lord Ping won the EGR Europe UK and Ireland Operator of the year 2026"
- PlayOJO won it, and PlayOJO is SkillOnNet's own brand rather than one of the SkillOnNet brands listed on this site. It is the same reason no SkillOnNet award appears on the Genting Casino card. Check it.
- "Betway won the SBC Esports Operator of the Year 2026"
- That category no longer exists in 2026. The thirty-nine categories of the edition hold one esports award, "Esports Supplier of the Year", won by Oddin.gg, which is a supplier category. Betway's run, from 2018 to 2023, closes with the category itself. Check it.
- "888casino won a category at the EGR Italy Awards 2026"
- The ceremony falls on 20 October 2026, and when we read it the body's page published the finalists only. 888casino is shortlisted for "Premio performance operatore (powered by H2 Gambling Capital)", and until the announcement that is a nomination. Check it.
- "A brand in our register won an AskGamblers Award 2026"
- Neither list of winners for the ninth edition, the body's release and its forum, carries a brand in our register: "Best Casino" went to 24Casino, "Best New Casino" and "Players' Choice" to SafeCasino, "Best Sportsbook" to bet365. The two lists also disagree over "Best Crypto Casino", CasCada in the release and Vavada on the forum. The shortlist of ten finalists in each category stays unverified, because the body's winners page has no 2026 tab and replaces every casino name with "Restricted in your country". Check it.
- "Betway is a WhichBingo Awards winner"
- Betway Bingo won "Best New Online Bingo Site" in 2015, and Betway Bingo is the British bingo product rather than a brand in our register, where the only Betway entry is betwayca. We read all thirteen pages of the 2014 to 2026 archive: no brand in the register appears among the winners. Check it.
- "Aladdin Slots, Amazon Slots, Dove Slots, Express Wins, Crystal Slots or Big Thunder Slots won the WhichBingo Best Jumpman Gaming Bingo Site award"
- The category ran from 2016 to 2020, it names the operator and not the brand, and it was won by Rocket Bingo, Zingo Bingo, Lucky Cow Bingo, Viking Bingo and Zeus Bingo, other brands on the same network and none of them in our register. Check it.
- "There is an Australian national award for an online casino"
- There is none: online casino play is prohibited by the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, and no body gives awards to operators the law does not allow. The Australasian Gaming Expo in Sydney is a trade fair and announces no awards programme for operators. That is a result and not a gap in the research.
- "There is an Ontario, Alberta or Quebec award for an online casino"
- We found none. iGaming Ontario and the AGCO are regulators, the AGLC is the regulator for Alberta, and Loto-Québec is a state monopoly: none of the four gives awards, and a permission is not an award. The one Canadian trade award we found, the Canadian Gaming Association's, has no category for online operators. Check it.
- "There is a United States state award for an online casino"
- We found none in New Jersey, Michigan or Pennsylvania: the one national United States award is the American Gambling Awards, and it held no edition in 2026. What the state registers carry on the brands in our register are not awards but cease and desist letters, which we record as regulatory actions.
- "The Canadian Game Awards 2026 gave an award to an online casino"
- They are a video game award with no connection to gambling. They fill almost every result of a search for Canadian awards in this industry.
When the honest answer is that nobody knows
A claim that fails the procedure is usually "unverified" rather than false, and the difference is worth keeping in view. The Casinomeister page of casinos it calls "rogue" lists a "Primeslots" among names that closed between 2008 and 2013, almost certainly a dead namesake of the site trading under that name today; until we can establish which company it was, we publish neither the accusation nor the clearance.
So the procedure ends in a sentence a reader can write out: this claim is verified at the body, or it is unverified, and here is the date (the day you opened the page). Run it on us as readily as on anybody else, because every award row here carries its source and its grade, and the rows that failed are on this page where you can read them.
Questions
What if the body has no archive?
Then the claim cannot be checked from the body, and the next best source is the trade press of that month. If neither has it, the honest conclusion is that the claim is unverified rather than false.
Is a press release from the casino good enough?
It is the weakest of the sources worth using, and it is not worthless: a listed company announcing a win in a regulatory filing has reasons to be accurate. A marketing page without a date is a different matter.
