Betway: five awards, all of them in esports
A brand with a genuine run of wins in a field that has nothing to do with casino play, and with an entry in the record that most pages quoting the wins leave out.

Five wins, and the question each of them answered
A trophy only ever answers the question its category asked, so the useful thing about an award is not how many there are but what the judges were choosing between when they gave it (the category is the question, and the trophy only the answer). All five wins recorded for this brand answer a question about "esports" betting (wagering on professional video-game matches), and not one of them answers a question about a casino.
A reader will object that a company winning five times in six years is plainly doing something right, and in our reading that is true as far as it goes. Competence does not travel between products.

The SBC Awards gave the brand "Esports Bookmaker of the Year" in 2018 and "Esports Operator of the Year" in 2019, then handed that second title to the wider group in 2021, in 2022 and again in 2023. Two things changed across the run (the wording of the category after the first year, and the recipient after the third), and we print both shifts rather than smoothing them into a total.
One year interrupts the sequence, and it is the most informative line on the page. In 2020 the brand reached the "shortlist" for the same category (the published finalists, not only the winner) and lost it to 1xBet, which a reader can see at all only because this body prints the names it passed over.
The specialism is worth holding still for a moment, because the whole weight of the five entries rests on it. A judge comparing sportsbooks on esports markets (a product with its own odds, its own markets and its own competitors) is not asking whether a casino pays out, how its "bonus terms" read, or what becomes of a withdrawal requested on a Friday afternoon.
The body itself deserves a line, since its standing is what those entries borrow. SBC Events lists its judges by name and publishes its shortlists; it names no third-party adjudicator, it does not publish how the scoring works, and it keeps parts of its archive as news articles rather than as permanent pages (which is why one of the five cites a magazine and not the body).
The entry nobody reprints
One further award belongs to this brand, and it is the kind no marketing department quotes. Casinomeister gave it "Fall From Grace" in 2016, a category reserved for operators that had lost the portal's "accreditation" (a status reached through a sixty-day trial), which this brand held from 2010 until the forum withdrew it that year after the operator declined to handle a complaint the forum had submitted.
A negative award is still an award, decided by the same body, recorded in the same archive, and dated as exactly as any trophy. The portal puts the brand in its "grey zone" today (neither accredited nor flagged), on the plain ground that it no longer meets criteria it once met.
The operator, and the one licence we could not find
The operator behind it, according to the register we read, is Betway Limited, a Maltese company registered as C39710 and part of Super Group (which also owns the Palace brands reviewed here), and its British licence (039372-R-319367-029, account 39372) has covered remote casino and real-event betting since 1 November 2014 and virtual events since June 2017, with no bingo entitlement at all. In Ontario the provincial list carries the brand under Cadway Limited; in Spain the authorised holder of betway.es is Betway Spain S.A.
One gap belongs in the open rather than in a footnote. The licence that applies to Canadian players outside Ontario is not something we could establish from any public register, so the box above names what can be named and then stops.
Two independent readings that will not agree
The distance between the two independent readings is our real finding here. Casino Guru had the brand at nine point two on 20 October 2026, and that "Safety Index" result sits in the portal's "Very high" band, with eighty-six complaints on file and twenty of them unresolved (on a file that size the ratio tells you more than the total).
That a numeric portal rates it highly while a forum keeps it off an accredited list stops being a contradiction once each is read for what it measures. One scores terms, complaint handling and scale; the other asks whether an operator will submit to a named arbiter when a player disputes a decision, and in 2016 that question got its answer.
The two cases on the Commission's own pages
Two entries belong here, and the first is routinely described in the wrong words. On 12 March 2020 the operator agreed to pay 11.6 million pounds and implement a "package of measures", following a Gambling Commission investigation into failings in social responsibility and in the control of money laundering, which the Commission calls "regulatory action" and not a "financial penalty".
That distinction is not pedantry, because much of the sum was restitution rather than punishment. The Commission found that 5.8 million pounds had been allowed to flow through the business which was, or could reasonably be suspected to be, the "proceeds of crime", and the majority of it was to be divested and returned to victims; the conduct concerned dealings with seven high-spending customers (seven, by the Commission's own count), and because no licence condition is named on any live Commission page about the case, we name none here.
The second entry is a penalty of 408,915 pounds dated 21 September 2022, for advertising that appeared on webpages aimed at children on the West Ham United website. A logo sat on a page offering "the opportunity to print a teddy bear for children to colour in" from 14 April 2020 until 6 November 2021, and on a page called "Young Hammers at Home" from 24 October to 15 November 2021 (the headlines of that week rounded the figure down to 400,000).
One sentence of the case has to travel with its figure wherever the figure goes. The Commission states expressly that "there is no suggestion that the operator was deliberately targeting children, or that children had been allowed to gamble", which is why we write that the advertising appeared on pages meant for children, and never that it was aimed at them.
Neither entry turns up where a reader would look for it first, and that absence has a dull explanation. The Commission's register of regulatory action covers three years and stops (its first entry, on the day of our search, was dated November 2023), its public statements come down after three years as well, and both of these cases therefore survive only on the Commission's own news pages!
The instrument you can take to any badge
What this page hands you is not a verdict but a habit of reading, and it costs about a minute for each claim you meet (less, once you know where the winners pages live). Find the body, find the category in that body's own wording, and then ask whether the category names the product you are about to put money into.
Applied here, our habit of reading gives an answer that five trophies on a graphic would never give. The wins are real, the body publishes its finalists, every date checks out, and not one of those awards was given for running a casino!

Questions
Do the esports wins say anything about the casino?
Very little. They were given for a sportsbook product in a specific vertical, judged against other sportsbooks, and a reader looking for a casino is reading about a different part of the company.
What was the Fall From Grace award?
A category for operators that lost the forum's accreditation. Betway held it from 2010 and lost it in 2016 after declining to handle a complaint the forum had submitted, which the forum recorded publicly at the time.
